What will this substack be about?

In short, the contents of this Substack will heavily revolve around my thoughts on the latest in both the NBA and superhero genre. For the former, that’s news, rumors, trades/signings, trends. Whatever’s hot and trending. For the latter, you can expect my thoughts on trailers, shows, movies, and video games.

About me:

Hi. My name is Daniel Lubofsky.

You might be intrigued with the potential of this Substack, but you probably want to know about some of my more notable credentials before even thinking about deciding whether my writing compels you enough to subscribe. I get it. Here you go:

—I wrote for an NBA website called Hoops Habit (of the FanSided network), where over 600 articles grossed north of 1 million combined views.

—Here is a list of the superhero-related movies/shows (I’m talking weekly episode thoughts) for which I’ve written reviews of: Black Widow, The Suicide Squad, Loki, Shang-Chi, Eternals, and Hawkeye (including the 1st trailer). I’ve also done episode-by-episode reviews of Ted Lasso (not hero-related but still awesome), broken down the two trailers for Spider-Man: No Way Home, and have also given my thoughts on various other hero-related content like Batman: Arkham Knight and my favorite MCU scene.

—I wrote for my college’s student newspaper, Queens College’s The Knight News, where I also served as a Copy and then Managing Editor.

Why did I start this Substack?

I’ve been giving my thoughts and analysis on the biggest daily happenings within the NBA for a number of years now (You can check out most of my work here and also by scrolling through my post history on Substack). That’s always going to occupy a large chunk of my writing. But over the last few months, I’ve begun plunging deeper into writing more and more about the plethora of superhero movies, shows, and video games the industry continues to bless us with at a growing rate (You can see all my previous work in the archives of this Substack). And whether it’s reviews or breakdowns or anything else, I’ve come to realize exactly how much I love doing it.

Problem was, after leaving some of my previous jobs, I was doing just about all of this writing on Medium, which is a great platform, but is also one that only allows non-paying members to read so many articles. Thus, whatever reach I was capable of was limited, and that felt restrictive, because as much as I write for the joy of it, I’m trying to turn my writing into a career. And that doesn’t happen without an audience, the kind Medium’s monthly article limit was keeping me from obtaining.

So, here I am, having created a platform specifically designated for the convergence of my two passions into one space that everyone is free to visit and read as much as they’d like. I believe I’m not the only one with one foot in both these worlds. My hope is to unite all the others and grow that community into a thriving space of content and conversations!

Why subscribe?

Convenience is all the rage these days. We want minimal effort to bring us maximum satisfaction.

That’s kind of the philosophy I’m going with here. If you like reading about the NBA along with the MCU and DC (and other superhero-related stuff like The Boys or Invincible) or if you’re looking for a place to bounce thoughts and ideas around on those very subjects, I’m offering you a one-stop-shop that ensures you won’t have to hop around multiple sites to read and talk about the kind of stuff you want. Even better, really, because the stuff comes to you! Straight to your inbox!

You’re probably wondering how much content you’ll be getting out of me, which is more than fair. While I can’t say what kind of split I’ll be offering between the Hoops and the Supes (during the NBA season, the former might generate more content-worthy stuff than the latter. In the offseason, I might get creative and lean the other way), I promise you won’t be short on what to read on a near-daily basis. That might sound like a bold statement, but considering it comes from someone who’s grown accustomed to writing no fewer than 5 posts most weeks, I feel pretty good about it.

And if nothing else, you’re getting content from someone who’s incredibly passionate about both areas. If you’re as passionate as I am, that’s definitely something you can get behind.

Plus, it’s free. So what are you really taking a risk on here by subscribing? Give me a chance to reel you in for good.

Help me to help you

I’m new to Substack. Even when I (hopefully) get to the point I’m not, I still want to grow this platform as much as possible. Probably the best way to do that is to know what I’m doing right, know what I’m doing wrong, and have a greater sense of what I could be doing to please current subscribers and bring in potential new ones.

There’s only so much I can do to help myself with that goal. The majority of it comes to you. So, I’m BEGGING YOU, please reach out and give me all your feedback. Tell me what you think I could be doing to give you, the reader, a better experience. Am I writing too much? Not enough? Not writing about an obvious topic? Having been in the writing landscape for a handful of years now, I know that listening to others is the best way for me to improve.
